An Outdoor Art Celebration every June

What is Streets Alive! ?
Streets Alive! started in 2009 as an offshoot of the successful Orillia Festival of Banners as a way to kick off the festival and create an outdoor art event that would draw visitors and residents alike to our city streets.

The Streets Alive! main event, held June 6–7, showcased jury-selected artists as they brought large banners to life with their unique designs under the watchful eye of the public, who voted on the finished banners. The top four artists were awarded generous cash prizes, and their winning banners were added to the Festival of Banners collection for prominent display in our city.

In addition to presenting this impressive display of artistic talent, Streets Alive! animated the street and entertained crowds with music, performance art, crafts and hands-on activity. The appeal of the event was particularly evident on Sunday, as over 400 people lined up in the rain to vote for their favourite finished banners!

Why a Streets Alive! celebration?
Streets Alive! is a shoulder-season signature event that attracts locals, cottagers and tourists to Orillia’s city streets, stimulates our local economy, instils a sense of civic pride in our great community, and celebrates outdoor art. Come be a part of it in 2010!

  2. I would like to give a great thank you for the efforts made in the last two years to Orillia and the downtown area. It started with the Winter carnival 2 years ago and since then there has been an event every weekend and beautiful down town banners, guitars and, now the boats of art. It is simply makes be proud to have grown up here and enjoy my home. Thank you please keep it going! Jennifer Seymore.
